Yes, this is another one of those year-end blog posts. I know, I know — we’re all flooded with them at this time of year, but bear with me. I started blogging back in the early days of Blogger (remember that?!) when we’d share everything under the sun — from random thoughts to deep dives into our lives. Then, as the internet shifted to bite-sized posts, tweets, and endless scrolling, I stopped writing. My oversharing habits changed, and I became a bit more private — like a tortoise trying to keep up with hares.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned this year, it’s that we all need to carve our own path and step out of our comfort zones. Sure, whatever I write here might get lost in the sea of internet noise (let’s face it, no one reads everything on the web). But hey, sharing my thoughts and learnings might not be such a bad idea after all. Who knows? If it helps even one person, it’ll be worth it — or at least I’ll feel like I contributed to the chaos.
As I look back on 2024, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for the experiences that shaped the year. It’s been a time of significant transformation— a year defined by growth, key learnings, and opportunities that pushed me outside my comfort zone. From collaborating with Hykmann and understanding the power of IoT solutions, to learning the ins and outs of global business strategies and embracing the world of angel investing — every experience has taught me something valuable. As I reflect on it all, I realise that resilience, risk, and reflection are the three words that sum up this year for me. I’m grateful for the challenges, the wins, the lessons, and the amazing people I’ve met along the way.
Scaling Ideas: My Experience in the IoT Space
One of the most rewarding professional experiences of this year was partnering with Hykmann, an innovative IoT solutions company. This collaboration not only sharpened my technical expertise but also provided invaluable insight into the complexities of developing scalable IoT solutions. While the journey came with its share of challenges — from navigating the ever-evolving tech landscape to understanding the real-world applications of IoT — it also allowed me to work alongside some truly brilliant minds. Along the way, I gained a deeper understanding of entrepreneurship, from business development to financial management and marketing strategies. Building something from the ground up is never easy, but it’s the persistence through moments of doubt and uncertainty that makes the process truly rewarding.
Exploring the World of Angel Investing
This year, I also dove into the world of angel investing—a space I’d always been curious about but never fully explored. A key part of this journey was joining an incredible network of investors and entrepreneurs.
Coming from a middle-class Indian background, the concept of angel investing was foreign to me. Growing up, the focus was always on stable careers and financial security. But as I started exploring this space, my mindset shifted. For the first time, I began to see money not just as a safety net, but as a tool for growth. The real value of startup investing isn’t in the returns—it’s in fueling the visionaries who are redefining the game. This approach has reshaped how I view failure, success, and the very nature of risk. It's a mindset I’m grateful to have embraced this year.
Another standout moment this year was attending tech meetups and one-on-one sessions in London. It kind of gave me the same vibe as Bangalore’s startup culture—fast, energetic, and full of ambition.
Here’s to another year of learning, evolving, and seizing new opportunities. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
